Objectives of Grarbet Rehab
 

Grarbet is a project dedicated to the rehabilitation of persons with epilepsy, post polio paralysis, hard of hearing and the visually impaired in rural sub-districts (Woredas) of the Eastern Gurage and Silti Zones of the Southern Nations Nationalities Peoples Region. The project has recently expanded to the Woredas of East Shoa of the Oromia Region.One of the centers is located 135 kilometers and the other is 160 Kilometers away from Addis in Zeway.

   

Objectives               

  • To establish a community-based rehabilitation service for the disabled,
  • To rehabilitate the physically disabled with physiotherapy, the provision of aids and appliances as well as corrective surgery,
  • To provide ophthalmologic services to patients with eye diseases and visual impairment,
  • To prevent trachoma through effective use of the SAFE strategy (Surgery, Antibiotics, Face Washing, Environmental Sanitation).
  • To provide optometry services through the production and provision of low cost spectacles,
  • To provide medical treatment and counseling to persons affected by epilepsy,
  • To provide skill training the physically handicapped,
  • To participate in the national polio eradication program in collaboration with local health centers, and to conduct relevant research in collaboration with local and international institutions engaged in health related research
