Welcome To Grarbet Rehabilatation Online

Grarbet is a project dedicated to the rehabilitation of persons with epilepsy, post polio paralysis, hard of hearing and the visually impaired in rural sub-districts (Woredas) of the Eastern Gurage and Silti Zones of the Southern Nations Nationalities Peoples Region. The project has recently expanded to the Woredas of East Shoa of the Oromia Region.

Grarbet is located 135 kilometers south of Addis Ababa in the Mesakn-Mareko Woreda of the Gurage Zone and 160 kilometers east of Addis Ababa in the East Shoa Zone. The rehabilitation center was christened Grarbet Rehabilitation, after grar (acacia), the most ubiquitous tree in the Ethiopian Rift Valley.

A mobile medical team composed of a physiotherapist, a nurse and an orthopedic technician regularly visits peasant associations.  The team registers and evaluates polio patients who later receive physiotherapy as well as aid and appliances.  The appliances are produced by the well-equipped workshop of the Center.  There are also provisions for corrective surgeries for patients with severe contractures. The surgeries are performed at the center by orthopedic and plastic surgeons coming from Addis Ababa and abroad.
